A Sentence a Day

Lately, I’ve been trying to get into better habits by creating a good routine that I can stick to. Something that I’ve been doing for over a year now is writing a sentence a day. It’s become apart of the daily routine that I love. I originally liked the idea of keeping a diary or gratitude journal – but if you’re anything like me and are super busy, it is simply too time-consuming and hard to maintain writing a long paragraph every day. I was so happy when I found my solution: A Sentence a Day Journals (also known as 365 Day Journals).

A Sentence 1

I’m sure they’re in stationery shops all over the world, but I found my A Sentence a Day Journal in kikki.K. I’m a complete sucker for cute stationery, so I absolutely love anything and everything that kikki.K sells, even if it’s slightly overpriced. The journal design is so adorable with baby pink, yellow and black dots covering the front cover (shown above).  The inside follows a similar theme, with each day being headed up by one of the 3 colours to create an overall cohesive theme for the journal.

A Sentence 3

Each day, you are asked a question or asked to finish a statement and you write a sentence in response. I really love this, as you can write about what you’re thinking at that exact moment or it can provide a glimpse into your life on that particular day. As you can see in above photos, the A Sentence a Day Journals can be used for 3 years – so now that it’s been over a year since I began using it, I’ve especially loved looking back to see what I thought and wrote exactly one year ago. I can tell you it’s been very interesting, but that’s the beauty of the journal. Once I finish it, I’ll be able to look back at it in 10,20 or even 50 years and read about my thoughts when I was 16.

To make sure I do my sentence every day (it takes 30 seconds, tops), I leave it on my bedside with a pen, to remind myself once I get into bed.

A Sentence

A Sentence a Day also makes for an amazing gift if you are a dedicated friend. A couple of years ago, my best friend gave me a jar with 365 messages, so that I would read one of them each day for a year. I have to say, it was the best and most thoughtful gift I’ve ever received. Each day, I got a small note; sometimes, it was a little message to brighten my day, an inspiring quote, a reminder of our dreams and thoughts, a warm fuzzy (compliment) or an amazing memory from the past. Even though the year is up, I still keep the jar of sentences on my bookshelf so that when I’m having a bad day, I can just pull some out and read them. If you’re stuck for gift ideas, a jar of 365 sentences is something you should definitely consider making!!

I’ve actually found writing in the journal very therapeutic and am super excited to look back at what I’ve written in future years to come. I hope that you will consider writing a sentence a day, if not to help rewind from a long and busy day, but even just to keep as a memento for the future. Do you keep a diary or journal of any sort?
